Weird news - Kid died in hot car, father charged

It is an accident, something that no parent would want to happen. At the same time, it would seem as a lot of common sense that a car will quickly get hot when left in the open, and anybody left in the car would quickly become uncomfortable in the vehicle and given enough time, suffocate in the heat. This is more problematic when a child is left in the car and because of their inability to help themselves, suffer the heat and some of them even die. In such cases, even if the parent would most likely have forgot the child in the car, the child died and this is a crime (link to article):
A Mississippi man has been charged with second-degree murder after he left his 8-month-old daughter in an overheated car while he went to work. Joshua Lewis Blunt left the child in the vehicle outside the restaurant where he works for “some period of time,” Grenada Deputy Police Chief George Douglas told the Clarion-Ledger.

Weird news - Child gets left behind in bus in Dubai, dies

This happens in different countries, and gets repeated so much you would wonder there would be a technical solution that can detect when a child gets left behind in a vehicle when it is very hot, so that they don't suffer in the stifling heat, something that can kill (and in fact, has killed many children over the years). However, it is still odd. When parents send their children to school, they sort of transfer the responsibility of the children to the school as soon as they get into the bus. So when they find out that the child had slept off and nobody noticed, and in the heat of Dubai weather, the bus would have become a death trap with heat and suffocation (link to article):
DUBAI: A six-year-old Indian boy was found dead after he dozed off in his school bus and left behind alone for several hours in the UAE on Saturday, according to a media report. Mohamed Farhan Faisal from Kerala was a student of Islamic Centre in Al Quoz and had dozed off after boarding the bus. He was left behind after all other students disembarked outside the centre at 8 am, the Khaleej Times reported. The Dubai Police said that they were told of the tragedy at 3 pm. "The child was found as the driver took the bus out to drop the students back home," a senior police official was quoted as saying by the paper.

Weird news - Buying a flat, and finding a body inside

This is truly a horrific experience. Imagine buying a house, opening it and then finding a body inside. For most people, such an experience would make them have a lot of negative thoughts about the house, with a number of house buyers would then refuse to live in such a house. And after six months of death, investigating the death would also be difficult, since even with a reduced amount of decomposition, a post-mortem would not reveal as many details given the elapsed time period. One wonders about the people who committed the murder but then were brazen enough to leave the body in a bed in a house which they then sold off; they would have known that the body would be found and eventually investigated (link to article):
The police have found a six-month-old decomposed body hidden in a box bed in a flat in Bhopal’s Bagsewania area on Sunday evening. The flat has reportedly been locked since June last year and the owners have not been seen since that time. The police is still not sure whether the recovered body is that of a man or a woman. “Everything will become clear after the post-mortem and DNA test. We are searching for the flat owners as only they will be able to reveal how the body reached here. Prima facie it appears to be a case of murder. The body had long hair, so we are suspecting it to be that of a woman,” SP South Sampat Upadhyay said. Police sources say the body had been kept on a mattress and wrapped with a cotton blanket, among other clothes inside the bed box. Even though the body appears to have been lying there for six months, it had not decomposed, instead it had become mummified.

Weird news - Head severed by leaning out of the bus

When we are on the road, there is a constant need to follow safety precautions, because with the speeds and the forces involved, there is always the threat of serious injury or death. From childhood, along with other safety precautions, the need to keep all parts of the body inside the car and not have anything outside the windows has been emphasized. Part of the reason for the same is because passing vehicles (in the same direction or in the opposite direction) can hit and with enough force, the shearing action can cause serious injuries or death.
In the following case, a lady was feeling a vomiting sensation, and in order to do it quickly, she moved her head outside the window, and that is where it got tragic. Her head hit an electric pole outside, and the impact was so severe that her head got severed from her body (link to article);
The head of a 56-year-old woman was smashed and severed after hitting an electric pole when she leaned out of the window of a rashly-driven bus to vomit here in Madhya Pradesh Friday, police said. The incident took place near Diamond crossing here and the victim was identified as Asha Rani, who was travelling from Satna district to Panna district, they said. Asha Rani leaned out of the bus’s window to vomit when her head hit the electric pole. The impact was so massive that her head got severed and tumbled on the road, Kotwali police station inspector Arvind Kujur told PTI over phone.

Weird news - Parents of 3 year girl with huge tumor arrested

Any kind of illness in a child can scare a parent and cause them to take all kinds of action. The minimum would be to see a doctor and figure out what kind of treatment. This would happen even if the parents are busy, or if the weather or bad, or something similar. The care and concern shown by parents is something that is supreme. This is something that is present in a vast majority of parents, so it always seems weird when you see a parent who apparently does not show concern for their children. And given that children are incapable of looking after themselves, it is the responsibility of the parents to take care of their children, and if it seems that they are not really doing so, they will face criminal charges for not taking care of them. The children can also be taken away and kept in foster homes where atleast they will get better care.
In this case, authorities in a town in Oklahoma were called to a camper home where they found a 3 year old girl with a 17-pound tumor, and who died soon after being admitted to hospital. Now, a tumor can be deadly and fatal, but it does not happen suddenly. Tumors develop and get bigger over a period of time, and in any normal case, the parents would have been frantic with worry, getting medical attention for the girl. The tumor may have been treatable or may not have been, but atleast the child would have had a chance, except the lack of attention meant that she did not have a chance. And which is why the parents will face manslaughter charges (link to article):
The parents of a 3-year-old Oklahoma girl who died from cancer and had a 17-pound tumor face manslaughter charges for allegedly failing to provide medical care. Authorities in Lawton were called Jan. 3 to a camper home near Lake Lawtonka on Oklahoma State Highway 58, the Lawton Constitution reported. The child was unconscious but breathing when responders arrived. She was taken to a hospital where she died. The state medical examiner found the child had cancer. Comanche County Sheriff Kenny Stradley said she had a 17-pound tumor, although it was not immediately clear exactly where the tumor was located.

Weird news - Rhino poachers and death by lions

Rhinos are big wild animals, who are unfortunately endangered because of their horns, which are supposed to have medical powers, especially aphrodisiac powers and is much sought over, even though trade in the horn is illegal the world over. Poachers, because of the money power of the trade, can be more powerful than the defenders of the animals, and are not bound by the same set of laws and rules.
Over a period of time, there has been a realization that it is not in the interest of humanity to keep on destroying animal species, and there has been more efforts towards ensuring the protection of these animals, who are hunted just because of money. However, once in a while, there are a set of circumstances that protect these hapless from poachers, and even though the death of these poachers is not something to be gloated over, there is a sense of irony that these poachers came to kill wild animals and were instead killed by ultra-predators, the king of the wilderness (link to article):
At least three suspected poachers who were apparently hunting for rhinos have been mauled to death and eaten by lions on a game reserve in South Africa, the owner said on Thursday. The men entered the Sibuya Game Reserve on the southeast coast armed with a high-powered rifle and an axe in the early hours of Monday and were found dismembered the following day. "They strayed into a pride of lions -- it's a big pride so they didn't have too much time," reserve owner Nick Fox, 60, told AFP. "We're not sure how many there were -- there's not much left of them.

Weird: Son died after being hit by mother's coffin

This is probably right there in the list of weird tragic deaths. The funerals in the Torajan community in northern Indonesia can be ornate, and very expensive, depending on the position of the person who dies as well as their family. These funerals can even last days with a large number of people attending, animals being killed and eaten, and more germane to the current situation, the coffins are placed on a temporary high platform, and that is where the problem occurred.
Coffins can be heavy, and with the dead weight of a body inside the coffin, it can be even more heavy, dangerously so. So when a group of people were trying to carry the coffin on a bamboo ladder to a temporary platform, some of the bamboo supports collapsed and eventually the people carrying the coffin fell down, with the coffin finally falling on a man named Samen Kondorura, who by a sense of twisted logic, was the dead lady's son, and who died due to the impact of the falling coffin (link to article):
The coffin, now vertical and supported by nothing, dropped more than 10 feet to the ground as frightened onlookers stared or screamed. At the bottom of the mass of people and bamboo and fabric was Samen Kondorura, Berta's 40-year-old son. He had been near the end of the coffin — one of the last trying to push it up into the tower. “As the mother’s coffin was being raised to the lakkian, suddenly the ladder shifted and collapsed, the coffin fell and hit the victim,” Julianto Sirait, chief police commissioner of the Tana Toraja municipality on Sulawesi, told the Guardian. Onlookers tried to dig him out of the pile, but it was too late. Samen Kondorura died on his way to the hospital, according to NDTV.

Weird news - Man dies after hitting a manhole

When people die tragically or in an accident, sometimes the way that they go is very strange (or weird). Consider this case, which is also a prime example of the incompetence of the local municipal authorities who left the road in a state of disrepair during a pipeline laying process. Accidents are known to have a high rate of severe injuries, or even fatalities because of the speeds involved, and because of the impact on frail human bodies. However, when you combine this with the shock caused due to the vehicle hitting a manhole, the driver being apparently drunk, and the vehicle catching fire after falling in a manhole which caused the driver to burn to death (and if he was drunk, the ability to respond quickly would have been also lost) (link to article):
As per the police the victim, a resident of Ulwe, was drunk at the time of the accident. The incident occurred when he was crossing sector 20 around 12.30am as per reports by Hindustan Times. The man lost control of his vehicle, which then jumped on to a sewage pipeline along the road. Smita Jadhav, senior inspector of NRI police station said, "The manholes along the stretch are uncovered as the construction work of a pipeline and road is going on. The victim and his two-wheeler fell into a manhole. After the accident, the two-wheeler caught fire and exploded inside the pipeline. The victim suffered severe burns and died on the spot."

Weird - Man in California buries son, learns son alive later

It's like a horror story, although the horror is more in terms of the psychological impact it has on the people. One of the worst experiences that they say that a parent can have is to witness or be told about the death of their children, and this is what this father had to experience.
One of their children (a man aged 57) had been suffering from mental illness and was living on the streets. Then his father got a call that their son had been found dead and that the police department had done verification of identity using fingerprints. In their shock, the family gathered together and did the burial for their son, and went through their grief. However, to their shock and relief, 11 days later, they got a call in which his son told the father that he was indeed alive, and the family learnt that the coroner had made a mistake in identification and that the son was alive (link to article):
Eleven days after laying his son to rest, Frank J. Kerrigan got a call from a friend. "Your son is alive," he said. "Bill (Shinker) put my son on the phone," Kerrigan said. "He said 'Hi Dad.' " Orange County coroner's officials had misidentified the body, the Orange County Register reported Friday. "When somebody tells me my son is dead, when they have fingerprints, I believe them," Kerrigan said. "If he wasn't identified by fingerprints I would been there in heartbeat."

Weird news - Tattoo, and then contamination leads to death

Sometimes death can come in circumstances that seem weird. A person dies in a situation where so many others see no impact; these circumstances making the entire situation seem so weird. Consider the below case. When somebody gets a tattoo, it is essentially a case involving a needle piercing the human body many times, and like any other wound, it needs some treatment and some days rest before the person gets healed. Now, even when somebody gets a wound, just because they are exposing their skin to pathogens or germs, does not mean that they will get infected.
In the below case, the person got a tattoo and would have been advised to ensure that it is cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis until the wound is fully healed. And like many other people, the person would have done so for a few days until he decided to disregard any such advice and decided to go for a swim in the ocean water. Ocean water contains many bacteria, and even though people go for swims on a regular basis and many of them may be having some open wounds, in this case, the person got infected, and in such a serious way that complications set in and he died in a matter of days (with high additional risk factors because of regular alcohol consumption that had caused weakness in the liver). (Link to article):
ive days after getting his tattoo, the man decided to go for a swim in the Gulf of Mexico. Just three days after that, he was admitted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with severe pain in both of his legs and feet. His symptoms included a fever, chills and redness around his tattoo and elsewhere on his legs. "A lot of our patients, when they come to our institution, come in sick -- and he was certainly among the sicker of the patients that we've had come in," said Dr. Nicholas Hendren, an internal medicine resident at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and lead author of the report. "He said he had a lot of pain in [his right leg]. That, of course, drew our attention right away. "Within a few hours, things had progressed pretty quickly," he said. "There's darkening skin changes, more bruising, more discoloration, what we call bullae -- or mounds of fluid that were starting to collect in his legs -- which, of course, is very alarming to anyone, as it was to us. .
Now, the warnings would have been there, but so many people would be disregarding the warnings and yet nothing happening. It was just unlucky in the case of this person that the infection took such a serious turn.

Weird news - Teen wakes up on the way to his funeral

One reads of stories like this from time to time, but the emotional impact of such a story is incredible on the person involved and the family members. Imagine if this recovery had happened just a few hours later, when it would have been too late and the person would have had a cremation.
The youth had been bitten by a stray dog and because of the high fever and complications that followed, he was hospitalized with a severe problem and at the end, the doctors said that they were unable to provide any further help and that he was beyond help. So the family decided to take him away When they felt no movement or other signs of life, they took him to be dead and decided to take him to the funeral.
However, he got up on the way to the funeral, which would be a shock to his family, but also a big relief (link to article):
A 17-year-old boy woke up on the way to his funeral in Dharwad's Managundi village, surprising his relatives and villagers who had presumed him dead. He was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is critical. Bitten by a stray dog one month ago, Kumar Marewad, 17, had high fever last week following which he was admitted to a Dharwad hospital. As his condition deteriorated, the teenager was put on ventilator. The doctors told Kumar's relatives that he was critical and that he would not survive if life support was removed. Informing them that infection had spread in Kumar's body, the doctors left the family to decide if they wanted to continue treatment. Later, the family decided to shift him home.

Weird news - Person dissolves in Yellowstone hot water spring

A horrific accident, that just goes to show how dangerous it can be to take security considerations and safety rules lightly. Yellowstone National Park is very attractive for visitors because of the beauty, and because of the hot springs and geysers; but underlying all this is the fact that the park sits on top of a huge volcanic chamber, and the conditions on top are because of the magma chamber underneath. As a result, there are many different types of gases (many of them dangerous), different levels of heat in the water along with many minerals that can make contact with the water dangerous. For the safety of visitors, there are regulations about where all visitors can go, and visitors are forbidden to go outside these regions. In addition, even though it may seem attractive to enjoy bathing in these hot springs, the conditions can be dangerous and hence it is prohibited. This horrific accident shows why these regulations should be followed (link to article).
This sister faced the horror of seeing her brother fall and die in a hot spring, and the high level of minerals (corrosive) caused a quick dissolution of the body to the extent that when rescuers tried to retrieve the body later, it could not found (link to article):
Like many of the 840,000 people who visited Yellowstone in June, Colin and Sable Scott, a brother and sister from Oregon, came to marvel at the basin’s thermal features. But their visit took a turn for the horrific, as The Washington Post reported, when the pair left the protective boardwalk and hiked 225 yards into the basin. “Then, somehow, Colin Scott slipped, and as his sister watched, the 23-year-old tumbled into one of the boiling springs. Despite her immediate call for help and the prolonged search efforts by park staff, her brother was never seen again,” The Post reported in June. One of the few pieces of evidence left behind was a pair of Scott’s flip-flops.

Weird news - Older boy kills younger one with a stone

In the case of adults attacking each other or one killing the other, the law is pretty clear on what action needs to be taken. The one who took the action leading to murder is prosecuted, where it can be determined whether this was done due to enmity or for some other purpose, whether it was in self-defense or in the heat of the moment, or was done with a lot of planning and then the punishment is done based on all these factors.
However, all of these make a basic premise. It is only when somebody becomes an adult, that is, he or she reaches the age of 18 that their minds are developed enough to know what they are doing. So, only an adult can take responsibility for any crimes that they may do, and hence a child cannot be punished the same way. This is incorporated into the laws of most countries, although some countries do make exceptions where the gravity of the crime and the way it is done enables making the final judgment about whether adult laws can be applied on children.
It remains tricky. What do you do when a child in school becomes violent and attacks somebody the same age as them or younger, and even kills the other person. Just a couple of years is not enough to make a difference in terms of development. So, there is an argument that just because somebody is 17 years old and commits a planned murder, they cannot be spared just because they were 17, and not a year older. If you take the current crime, what can be done ? (link to article)
On Wednesday morning the two boys reached schoo at 8.15am. Even before classes began, the duo got into a fight. "The boys reside in the same area in Karumarapa layam, and travel to school on the same bus," a senior police officer told TOI. "As the fight escalated, the boys began beating each other up. The older boy attacked the deceased with a stone on his forehead," said a police official on the case. In the impact, the 6-year-old collapsed, hitting another stone on the ground. "The fall killed him," said the official. The incident happened near the boys' toilet. Two other students had spotted the Class 6 boy leaving the toilet, police said. The juvenile in conflict with law was produced before the judicial magistrate on Wednesday evening, and was remanded to custody . "He will be sent to a juvenile home," a police official said.
Now, even though the child died in a fall, the fall happened because he was hit by the older boy and hence there is a responsibility for the crime, but under most existing laws, the older boy can be tried as a juvenile rather than be charged with murder.

Weird news - Killing a customer through a curry meal

Typically, murder involves a trial. But this murder would normally be through a gun, through a knife, killing a person through poison or by some other direct, violent means. Even if you got somebody killed through an assassination contract, it does involve violence, even if this was indirectly. However, there are other ways to kill somebody, even if this is done indirectly, or even though actions that might be deemed careless, or something similar. What happens to the case where somebody has an allergy and you do something that aggravates that allergy and causes a massive medical reaction within the body and causes death, whether instantaneously or even after admission into the hotel.
In the current case, the owner of restaurants has been charged for murder for the use of a material that contains peanut even though the item is advertised as nut free. For people who are allergic to peanuts or other such items, the allergic reaction to peanuts or other allergens is incredible and can also cause death depends on the quickness of treatment and the amount of allergic reaction (link to article):
A Bangladeshi-origin owner of a restaurant in northern England went on trial today charged with manslaughter after a man with a severe nut allergy died as a result of dining at his restaurant. Mohammed Zaman denies manslaughter by gross negligence, perverting the course of justice and six food safety offences in relation to the death of Paul Wilson. "Zaman received numerous warnings that he was putting his customers' health, and potentially their lives, at risk. Tragically for Paul Wilson, Mohammed Zaman took none of those opportunities and ignored all of the warnings he was given," prosecutor Richard Wright told Teesside Crown Court in North Yorkshire.

Weird news - Yacht found after a year, dead body inside

In today's world, there are many cases where people live like a loner. An increasing number of people are divorced or have decided to live alone, or their spouse has passed away, and they are all alone. They have have friends and / or relatives, but not everybody visits their relatives so often. There are increasing number of cases where a person has died alone, and not been found for weeks or months; until somebody has a reason to come to their house - and this need not be a loved one, it could be a utility worker, or in a weird case, somebody come to repossess the house who discovered that the previous occupant of the house had died many months back in the house and nobody had discovered this.
The below situation is even more weird. This was a person who was living on a yacht, roaming the oceans of the world. He was separated from his wife (who had also died sometime in the past), and had been last in contact with people over a year back. Some people on a fishing boat come across this yacht floating derelict on the water, and when they explored, they found the 59 year old skipper of the boat inside, dead for a long time. With the ocean conditions being warm and salty, the body had mummified in its seat, the occupant having probably died of a heart attack (link to article):
It had been more than a year since anyone had heard from the 40ft Sajo's 59-year-old German skipper, Manfred Fritz Bajorat. It did not take long for Rivas to discover why as he scrambled on board to help. The Filipino fisherman found Bajorat's body sat next to the vessel's bank of radio transmitters. Such had been the dry, salty conditions since the unexplained death of the German sailor that his corpse had been mummified in its final position, slumped over a table used for charts with the transmitter handset just inches away. Police in the port of Barobo, about 700 miles south of Manila, where Rivas towed the Sajo, said that a post-mortem examination had found no evidence of foul play and it was believed Bajorat had died of natural causes, possibly from a heart attack.

Weird news - ISIS militant kills own mother

This is more of horrific news rather than weird news, but anything related to the terrorist Islamic group, ISIS has the possibility of being horrific and likely to cause a huge amount of horror in the minds of those who get information about any activity of the ISIS. Their past activities with regard to execution of anyone who does not support them, of beheading people, and so on, are scary.
But there are single activities that seem extremely strange, where you have people doing stuff that shows how badly they have been indoctrinated and how they are immune to logic. There are incidents in the world where people have been known to kill a parent / kill their parents, but it is something that is rare and always seem weird when it happens. However, to report your own mother to the headquarters of the terrorist organization, and then to follow orders by killing your own mother by shooting her shows the extent to which humanity has gone from followers of ISIS (link to article):
An Islamic State militant carried out a public "execution" of his mother because she asked him to leave the group, activists say. Ali Saqr, 21, killed his mother, Lena al-Qasem, 45, outside the post office in Raqqa, Syria, eyewitnesses said. Raqqa has served as IS' de facto capital since the group captured the city in August 2013. IS does not tolerate any dissent and imposes brutal punishments, often carried out in public.

Weird news - Woman crushed in escalator in China, manages to save child

This is the like a horror story. And yet, it just underscores how so many modern items we deal with on a regular basis can become so dangerous so quickly. And this is not an isolated accident, there have been problems with escalators over the years (why do you think a red emergency stop button was added to escalators for a quick stop of everything). It becomes even more horrifying when you think of how she died (don't watch the video in the attached article if you want to avoid seeing horrifying images). The miracle in this whole episode is how the woman was with her son, and before she died, she was able to hand over her son to 2 employees of the mall, with the son surviving the accident, but seeing his mother dying horribly in front of him.
And why did this accident happen ? Well, seems criminal. A metal plate at the top of the escalator was loose, and as the woman stepped on it, it opened and she was exposed to the machinery. The machinery did not have automatic cut-off to prevent such accidents, and it ground remorselessly on, killing the woman (link to article):
The scene can only be described as horrific: On an otherwise unremarkable morning, a woman is riding up a shopping center escalator in central China with her son. When she reaches the top and begins to disembark, she steps onto a metal footplate covering the machinery. The plate collapses, dropping the woman into the gears. She shoves her child into the arms of two mall employees, and is crushed to death. According to Xiang’s sister-in-law, Xiang apparently was unaware of any problem with the escalator until she and her son had already stepped onto the moving staircase, which was still in motion and not blocked off in any way. People questioned why the escalator was allowed to keep running or was not cordoned off if it posed a danger. Two employees, seen in the closed-circuit video circulated online, were standing at the top of the escalator, apparently trying to talk with Xiang as she and her son rode up.

Weird news - World war 2 bomb kills digger operator

The amount of bombs that were dropped in various parts of Europe during the Second World War was incredible. During the bombing campaigns over Germany and Britain, and in other countries as well, there were a large number of casualties caused by these bombs. During days of the Blitz, when the German Air Force attacked Britain, a single night raid could cause thousands of dead; similarly, the aircraft raids on Berlin and other cities were mass killers, with the most powerful of these raids killing 10,000's of thousands of people in a single night. And this was not the only such event; the movement of the allies from both the east and west into Germany to defeat the Nazis were incredibly violent actions, and the amount of bombs used were massive.
These bombs did a lot of damage then, but many of them remained unexploded, and still cause a nuisance now and then. They would burrow down into the ground, and would remain there, a threat to the whole area around them for hundreds of yards, liable to go off if some kind of disturbance caused them to trigger. In many cases, with digging of areas for buildings or other such kind of construction, these bombs would be exposed and all work would stop until the bomb had been retrieved and then only the work would resume. The threat of such bombs is exposed in events such as these (link to article):
A second world war bomb exploded in a western German town on Friday, killing the driver of an excavator and wounding 13 other people, police have said. The explosion happened in an industrial area of Euskirchen, near Bonn, at a property used by a construction firm to sort and dispose of rubble. It wasn't immediately clear whether the explosives had long been buried in the ground or had inadvertently been brought to the site in a delivery of demolition waste. The driver of the mechanical digger was fatally injured after it hit the device, and two people nearby were seriously hurt. Another 11 people who were in the area suffered minor injuries. Windows, roofs and doors up to 400 metres away were damaged in the blast, police said.

Weird news: Man killed by automobile plant robot in Germany

Modern factories have a lot of automation that needs to happen. If you consider the assembly line of a modern automobile plant, there are a number of steps that need to happen again, which would include assembling various metal plates, bolting and welding them together, spray painting, etc. These used to be done by people earlier, but mostly these are repetitive operations that can be done by automation. Over the years, these assembly line operations have been taken over by robots; machines which do not look anything like the robots shown in movies, but essentially machines that have been built for such custom operations. These machines are expensive, but can work much faster than humans, have lower amount of errors and can easily earn back the amount invested in them.
One of the problems with robots or machines such as these is that they have been designed for a customer purpose which they do very well, but are not really designed for sudden or unusual events that happen, in which case their response would be nothing like how a human reacts. And the power that these machines have is pretty huge, being powered by machinery and being able to lift large weights easily and manipulate them. In this particular case, a contractor was killed in a mishap involving such a robot, where the robot grabbed the human and pushed him against a metal plate, killing in the process. And no, the robot is not being sent for a murder charge, but they would do well to investigate as to how the robot came to be in such a process (link to article):
A robot has killed a contractor at one of Volkswagen’s production plants in Germany, the automaker has said. The man died on Monday at the plant in Baunatal, about 100km (62 miles) north of Frankfurt, VW spokesman Heiko Hillwig said. The 22-year-old was part of a team that was setting up the stationary robot when it grabbed and crushed him against a metal plate, Hillwig said. He said initial conclusions indicate that human error was to blame, rather than a problem with the robot, which can be programmed to perform various tasks in the assembly process. He said it normally operates within a confined area at the plant, grabbing auto parts and manipulating them.

Weird news: Man killed by snake after he killed snake

Seems weird, I was totally shocked when I read this. It seems totally weird and impossible, but has been ratified by scientists that it is very much possible. It also means that chefs all over need to be very careful, or even anybody else who deals with poisonous snakes. What happened in this case ?
There was a report of a chef in China who died soon after removing the head of a poisonous snake. This was an Indochina spitting cobra, and the chef had cut its head off in order to prepare snake soup, with the head having been cut off around 20 minutes before. The chef could not be saved since emergency workers were not able to get to him before the effects of the snake venom (read article):

"The snake's venom apparatus and jaw muscles are all contained in the head -- as are the nerves that control these muscles and venomous glands," Lewin said. "Unlike humans, snake tissue can withstand long periods without circulating blood… The tissue doesn't lose function as quickly as a mammal and the reflexes remain intact" even after death. "It's a bit creepy to me because it blurs the meaning of being dead," he added. "People are susceptible to these reflexive bites probably because they are thinking of beheading from a human perspective."
Gives an entirely different meaning to the phrase about death being the end.
