Weird news - Young boys kill flamingo in zoo

The law says that young children cannot be penalized for their actions, although some countries do allow prosecution if the crime committed is particularly heinous, say for example, when they kill somebody or rape, or something similar. It gets more tricky when they indulge in behavior that is a portend of future bad behavior, but when they are so young, how does one penalize them ? It is a similar situation when a 6 year old kills a younger boy; at that young age, one cannot treat them as an adult and punish them, but at the same time, the crime can be horrendous.
In the present case, these 3 young boys, who obviously has thought about what they were planning on doing, climbed into a zoo and broke into the flamingo enclosure and started pelting them with stones and killed one of these beautiful and graceful birds. And probably the only thing that can be done is that the zoo can charge their parents for the damage that has happened, which should be atleast some kind of indicator to their parents that something needs to be done (link to article):
It was here that the pink-feathered bird was stoned and beaten to death Friday by a trio of young boys, zoo officials told The Washington Post, marking the latest in a string of attacks around the world on zoo animals. The boys, ages 5, 6 and 8, broke into the zoo and scaled a fence to reach the indoor flamingo exhibit. Then they attacked the 60-bird flock, throwing rocks and sticks at them. “First, they pelted them with stones and then one of them kicked it,” resident zoologist Jan Vašák told the Prague Morning. One of the birds, the 16-year-old father of eight, bled to death after suffering a broken leg bone and severed arteries. Another bird is recovering from serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to a zoo statement obtained by The Washington Post.

It was also lucky for the boys that they did not get into an animal enclosure which was not dangerous, else they would have been at the receiving end.

Weird news - Toddler burned because her parents owed money

Sometimes you read news which makes you feel that people can be incredibly cruel, heartless. When you consider the case of toddlers and infants, they are essentially helpless to protect themselves or take care of themselves. In such a case, if there is news of somebody torturing a toddler for punishment of what their parent would have done, it seems something that only a heartless person could do, and the punishment for such an action needs to be accordingly harsh. One does know that people feel strongly when they see such mistreatment, and when you consider the parents, they can put whatever effort it takes to ensure that their children are safe. It is all the more problematic when the child has been tortured because of debt that their parents owed; however, no matter what the reason, it is not permissible to torture a small child who does not know what is happening and whose screams would surely be traumatic to hear (link to article):
According to police, Seema and her husband Ranith tortured a two year-old girl, Bhuvaneswari, daughter of Lakshmi and Ashwin Kumar of Bengaluru after they reportedly failed to repay a debt of Rs 3,000. Seema and Lakshmi worked together in a brick kiln near Bengaluru five months ago. “Lakshmi borrowed Rs 3,000 from Seema while they were working in the kiln. After the contract work in the kiln got over, Seema asked Lakshmi to come to Tirupattur and work here to repay the debt. She came along with her husband and two children and was living in rented house in Ambedkar Nagar in the town,” said the police official.

Weird news - Burglars rob a house, kill the witnesses (goldfish)

It is one of the most common conceptions, that goldfish have one of the shortest memories of all animals, with the memory level supposed to be that of a second. This is apparently a misconception, with the scientific belief being that goldfish can remember things for 3 months. However, when you combine this with the strongly held belief by some burglars that they need to get rid of all witnesses, the consequences were tragic for the goldfish.
Some teenagers robbed a house, and being young and enthusiastic, and having probably seen too many episodes of CSI, they were worried about being identified and caught, and hence decided to eliminate any possible witnesses to the crime, which in this case, were only some poor goldfish in the tank (link to article):

An Illinois teenager is facing residential burglary and cruelty to animals raps after killing a trio of potential witnesses to an Arlington Heights burglary - three goldfish. On 24 January, the unnamed 16-year-old and two accomplices, aged 15 and 17, targeted an apartment in a block which had been evacuated following a fire on 19 January. Police say they "pried open a door and stole a video game system, CD player, 30 video games, 30 DVDs, a BB gun, jewelry and a safe".
When the residents returned, they discovered "hot sauce, mustard, ketchup and spices had been poured into their fish tank and three goldfish floating at the top", the local Daily Herald reports.
